CERTIFICATION IN NURSING CASE MANAGEMENT–What is it???
Nurse case managers need to have extensive clinical experience and knowledge of patient care. The nursing case manager must have clinical competence in the assessment of patient needs, pro-actively assessing actual as well as potential health concerns, identify goals for treatment, and strive for desired outcomes using the most cost effective approach possible. The nursing case manager must be able to apply the nursing process, plan, get approval for, coordinate, implement, and evaluate services. Certification in nurse case management is vital. It affirms that the nurse case manager possesses the knowledge and skills required to render appropriate case management services to patients/clients. Certification for nursing case management is obtained through the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC). Nursing case management is recognized as a specialized area of practice. A professional when certified as a case manager uses the credential "certified case manager" (CCM) in conjunction with his/her professional license (for example, registered professional nurses use the credentials RN, CCM).
